The African crooks like using non-profit organisations like International Awareness as a front for their scam or fraudulent messages. I wonder if this will show up as much as Fondation de France has?

A short lottery fraud e-mail, but the basics are there.

Here’s another example of using a name with a high trust value for a bogus lottery.

In their quest to find names which can impress people, these crooks have happened upon Mercedes Benz. Of course it’s a name that is well known the world over for quality cars. That’s why they use it here. To give the reader the impression that what they are reading is plausible and true.

They don’t actually call it a lottery in this one, but it’s written like the Yahoo & MSN scam e-mails which have been reported often here. Instead of MSN they name Windows Live as the cooperation partner. Looks as though they are modernizing.

District d'AbidjanImage via Wikipedia

Most of the lottery e-mails claim to be from European lottery
companies. This one, on the other hand, claims to be in the Ivory
Coast. Now, as most of you know, all lottery e-mails are fraudulent.
Lottery companies never, ever send prize announcements per e-mail. So
is this one double suspect?

The proposed takeover of Yahoo by Microsoft is not yet a reality, but this does not prevent the African crooks from using the company names for a bogus lottery.

The Yahoo/Microsoft combination has been used quite often in the past as our archives show.

There has been a decrease in the numbers of lottery e-mails during the last weeks. I doubt that it means that there is a shift away from that type of scam e-mail. I am sure we will be seeing it in circulation for some time to come.
